ABOUT EXHIBITION

StolenSpace Gallery is excited to present the new solo exhibition, ‘Taxonomy’, by Irish artist Maser. This extensive, bold body of work features all brand new pieces.

Having created artwork since 1995, over the last 24 years, Maser has generated a large and dedicated following in Ireland and abroad. His unique, artistic style draws upon numerous influences including optical art and mid-century art, and is regularly complemented with bold colours, pattern and text, across a variety of mediums.

During his time in London, Maser found himself in search of natural forms to create more balance within his life, and as a way to alleviate anxiety and to regulate sleep patterns. However, his personal interest soon became intrinsically infused with his artistic practice, and led him to creating one of his most considered bodies of work.

‘Taxonomy’, describes the science of investigating and identifying natural organisms. It is extremely befitting for this new work by Maser, as he was heavily inspired by the lab studies and scientific illustrations of organic, plant based forms.

In the exhibition, viewers will be immersed in a series of large scale abstract landscapes. These landscapes will be complemented by smaller painterly studies of botanics from a zoomed in perspective, and stripped back to their essential elements. The work showcases Maser’s signature use of flowing forms and patterns each of which have their own specific purpose, and from a visual perspective they elude to the aesthetics of a flower arrangement.

In addition to this, Maser includes the use of textured lines which have been hand painted to deliver a spray painted effect. His gestural use of these lines, are attention grabbing and placed at the forefront of the paintings – acting as a nod to his origins in street art. The lines are a tangible way for the artist to both illustrate the evolution of his craft, and to re-establish a connection with his past.
