In Conversation with Haroshi: Soul

In Conversation with Haroshi: Soul

There’s only a few days left to catch Haroshi’s ‘Pain’ exhibition, which ends on 3rd November! Today we ask Haroshi about the soul he gives to each of his unique and stunning creations…

StolenSpace: You tend to keep personal or skate related objects within your sculptures.  Have you done this to any of the sculptures on display? If so, can you tell us a bit about the objects you have chosen to hide and why?

Haroshi: Yes, I inject them within my works as something that represents my mind and spirit.  Surprisingly, sculptures from ancient times do the same thing. My sculptures don’t move but they’re alive.  I really feel that as I’m working on them.  So I try to give them a soul, because I want them to have a mind and spirit as much as possible.  But I’m not telling you what I’ve chosen to pour into them.  It’s more beautiful to assume and wonder about what’s hiding inside.  In this world, most questions can be answered by searching the internet.  So in this time and age, I think the most beautiful things are those that you can’t see or touch.  Just like something that lives on, or that you yearn for, in your memory. It’s not always good to reveal everything.  It’s better to leave some things a mystery.

‘Pain’ is open until 3rd November at StolenSpace Gallery.
